20th Century Fox drama about a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. Pits an engineer and his conductor in a race against time. They're chasing the runaway train in a separate locomotive and need to bring it under control before it derails on a curve and causes a toxic spill that will decimate a town.

Director Tony Scott contacted FXperts and John Frazier to orchstrate a two locomotive derailing sequence that required a redesigned light weigh version of a conventional diesel electric locomotive. In eight weeks the FXperts team built two 50,000 lbs locomotive action props powered by a Freightliner FL70 engine and drive train.

Using a conventional diesel electric locomotive weighing 400,000 lbs each was not an option for a sequence this extreme.

Director Tony Scott wanted the train to not only "jump" and derail from the tracks, but also to jack-knife and slide away. This required the FXperts team to choreograph a multi-stage effect with pneumatic arms "jumping" the train, and a hook and cable system that pulled the locomotive away from the tracks.
